Prehistory comes to life in the Stone Age village

From the Kierikki Stone Age Centre main building, a pathway made out of sturdy logs runs a half a kilometre and leads through the Stone Age settlement to the reconstructed Stone Age village.

5,000-7,000 years ago people lived in Kierikki on the sandy banks of the river Iijoki, near the mouth of the river and the sea. The village had different kinds of buildings, single and semi-detached houses. Sometimes large row houses were built, which are Kierikki's specialty.

The buildings in the Stone Age village are based on research data obtained from archaeological excavations. Ancient tales come alive in the village atmosphere.

At the stone smith's lean-to, you can test out how an arrowhead is formed with sand and water. The ancient shooting range is ready to gauge your skill. During the summer you can also try and paddle with an ancient-style boat. Kierikki guide will be there to help you.

A half-a-kilometre long trap path leads from the Stone Age village through the forest, and passes traps from ancient times. You will become familiar with the different ways of trapping for example bears and foxes.
